The Siren Call of the Community Swimming Pool

When I can’t run away, I swim.

There’s something uniquely reassuring about swimming laps in my local community pool. I can’t speak to people in the water. I can’t listen to self-help podcasts. There’s no work to be done. I’m unrecognizable in my lemon-green swim cap, goggles pulled tight around my eyes. I am an anonymous swimmer, one among many.
